How to Install an SSL Certificate?

Having an SSL security certificate on your website has become incredibly important. For the secure transfer of information from point A to point B, in short, for operating a secure website, an SSL security certificate has become somewhat of a necessity.

What is an SSL Certificate and What Does It Do?

Firstly, let's take a look at the abbreviation SSL. This abbreviation stands for "Secure Socket Layers." SSL enables the encryption of data during communication between the server and the receiver. This technology ensures that communication between the server and the web browser is encrypted, securing users' personal information such as credit card numbers and other critical details while exchanging data.

How to Purchase an SSL Certificate?

The first step in installing an SSL certificate is to purchase the SSL certificate and then generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request). You can purchase your security certificate from this link. The CSR generation process enables you to define both the server that will use your certificate and the domain names to which you'll assign the SSL certificate.

What Does CSR and Private Key Mean?

Let's start with the basics and understand what CSR and Private Key mean. CSR, as understood from its Turkish translation "sertifika imzalama talebi" in our text, refers to the request stage of using an SSL certificate.

When you complete this stage, you'll receive an encrypted text. This encrypted text contains details such as your company name, domain name (i.e., your website), your region, your country, and your Private Key. It's crucial to keep this Private Key confidential; no one else should know it. If you lose this encrypted text, you'll lose your certificate, so it's important to store this text securely.

SSL Certificate Installation: How to Generate CSR and Private Key?

There are various methods to create a CSR for SSL certificate installation. This process varies depending on the type of certificate you've requested, your operating system, and your web panel or control panel.

How to Generate CSR and Private Key from cPanel?

Firstly, you need to log in to your cPanel account. To access your cPanel account, you need to follow the path https://yourdomain.com:2083. Log in with your user details. Navigate to the "Security" tab, and click on the "SSL/TLS" button.

Before starting the setup, we need to generate a CSR. Click on the "Certificate Signing Requests (CSR)" button on the opened page.

On the next page, fill out the "Domains" section accurately. Be cautious here, as there is no chance for corrections. If you make a mistake, you'll need to recreate the form. You can write your domain name as www.yourdomain.com. If you're affiliated with a company or organization, fill in those sections. If not, you cannot leave these sections blank, so you can enter your domain name again.
